Addenbrookes Hospital fulfils a number of important functions. It is the local hospital in the Cambridge area, it is a specialist centre for the national population as well as being the University of Cambridge teaching hospital and a world class centre for medical research.
It is also the first ever PFI project with a new NHS foundation to reach financial close.

Alfred McAlpine Capital Projects commenced construction activity as soon as possible after the financial close. The local area population growth, coupled with enhanced government standards for treatment times, resulted in a very high demand for the new facilities to be delivered early.

This 27 Month construction project extends to over 30,000 square metres and provides an elective Care Centre over 6 floors, together with research facilities for the Health Trust and Cambridge University.

Upon contract award, Multitech made contact with the McAlpine project team to offer an initial consultation.  Following this, the Estimating Team at Multitech developed a bespoke  temporary electrical and plumbing design to work in tandem with the build programme.

Once this was complete Multitech submitted their design and financial offer together with a short presentation.

The McAlpine team were impressed with the attention to detail and clear thought that underlined the design principles and subsequently awarded the project to Multitech Site Services, despite competitive  bids from several of our competitors.

The initial work involved liaison with the NHS Trust to provide a package substation of sufficient rating to power a project of this size. A dedicated Site Distribution Assembly SIDA was manufactured specifically for this project which then connects to the Substation once this was installed, tested and operational.

Multitech then progressed the Contractor’s accommodation and office requirements which were located across the road from the actual building site.  There followed  an extensive site floodlighting  installation  together with supplies to  the three number tower cranes and further floodlighting. As the construction progressed, Multitech installed further sub distribution panels, together with 10KVA site transformers, safety lighting, hoist, welding, core drilling and lift testing supplies.
  
Throughout the building, over two thousand 110V fluorescent fittings together with an emergency lighting and evacuation system were installed. Two Members of the Multitech team stayed on site to carry out maintenance and adaptations throughout the Contract’s entire period, as well as the dismantling and removal of our installation upon completion.
