“The Multitech input at tender stage helped us greatly with our construction plans. During the project their reliability and “can do “approach was of an enormous benefit and very much assisted the site team in achieving our aims.”
Les Nicholls - Sisk Area Director
Client John Sisk & Sons
Project – Wembley Arena
Contract Value – £25, 000,000
John Sisk and Sons engaged Multitech to provide their temporary engineering services at the Wembley Arena re – configuration project.
Wembley Arena has for many years been London’s primary music venue, hosting many memorable concerts and events.
The grade 2 listed building was originally constructed in 1934 for the Empire games. By 2004 the venue was in need of substantial design changes and a complete refurbishment.
Multitech were asked to assist during the Sisk tender process. A comprehensive consultation, together with several site visits, were carried out in conjunction with the client to establish their precise requirements and to advise on the overall scheme and budgets.
During this period of planning, Multitech established that the original hi bay show lighting within both the main arena and stage area’s, could be isolated and connected to the temporary electrical installation. It was therefore proposed to use this existing arrangement for the main arena lighting requirements during the construction period. This would result in a significant cost and time saving for the client, as well as being a very convenient method of working.
Once the project was secured and underway, the Multitech design was adopted. As well as this, a comprehensive installation was carried out involving 3 separate power supplies to the site. Accommodation, hoists transformers and further lighting were installed. A full plumbing installation was also carried out. Such was the scale and complexity of the Multitech installation that full time staff were required on site throughout the construction period, for maintenance and adaptations as the site team required.
The client had a large and challenging project to complete in a relatively short space of time. The arena was reversed, with the main entrance opening onto an exciting new public square, with a covered service yard being constructed around the re-located stage.
The arena has approximately 12,200 new seats, 9 large dressing rooms, promoter offices, a 200 seat restaurant, hospitality suites, a total of 10 bars and dedicated fast food outlets and a box office.
The refurbished arena now offers excellent facilities for its customers and promoters.
Given the furore surrounding the new national stadium located just next door, and that Kylie Minogue was booked for the opening night, this was always a project which could not be delayed or late. Under Sisk management the building work was completed on time and to budget.
As an organisation, Multitech were pleased to be able to support our client’s activities on this landmark project.
Several Multitech Staff were also able to attend the Kylie Concert on the opening night. |
